The second round of the U18 & Academy Trophy World Championship took place at the French circuit of Essay.
Also this time the excellent performances of the FIM WKE engines and the FIM motorized Parolin Academy karts confirmed the two categories as flagships of the international karting. The best lap times reported by drivers of both categories, are so close to each other just to confirm the high equity level guaranteed by the technical material supplied by the manufacturers A.M. Engineering and Parolin Racing Kart.
The French U18 driver Anthoine Hubert (Sodi) won in front of his public, imposing himself both in the prefinal and in the final; behind him Pyry Ovaska (Maranello) and the winner of the 1st round in Ortona Mattew Graham, registered a good score in view of the general classification. There's great trepidation for last round in Sarno, where Ovaska, leader of the championship with a score of 131 points, will lead the tête à tête with Mattew Graham (106) and Anthoine Hubert (93).
Mike Azcona e Charles Leclerc were the protagonists in the 1st race of the Academy category, where the Monegasque driver conquered the victory at three laps from the finishing line. Otherwise the Spanish driver, for not having complied with the starting process, received 3 penalty points and had to leave the podium making do with the fourth position. In second and third position we see respectively Benjamin Barnicoat and Dorian Boccolacci.
The scenary for the 2nd race had been completely different. Charles Leclarc had to give the way to Dorian Boccolacci, but the British Benjamin Barnicoat after few laps took the command of the race. Boccolacci didn't give up and at four laps from the end regained the head of the race winning the first position. Unfortunately the French guy had been disqualified for being underweight, offering the victory to Benjamin Barnicoat, followed by the Russian Vsevolod Gagen (also winner of the educational program Edukart) and Charles Leclerc. Moment of great commotion when Barnicoat dedicated his victory to the compatriot Martin Hines, icon of the internationl karting, that disappeared in the last weekend after a serious disease.
In Sarno it will be a battle with no holds barred for the conquest of the title between Charles Leclerc (173 points) and Benjamin Barnicoat (167), to continue with the Spanish Mikel Azcona (141), the Greek Filipos Kalesis (134) and the Finn Juho Valtanen (131) that for sure won't give up. The appointment is at the feet of Vesuvio the 6th of November!
